Why do I have to loan Verizon $45.99 for 60 days?

New York, NY INTERNET: I was surprised to see a $45.99 charge on my debit card a month after I thought my account was canceled. I guess that someone had failed to process the cancellation (Verizon's mistake, not mine). Anyway, I called and was told that my account will be credited the $45.99. So I waited and, 7 business days later, I began to wonder where the money was. So I called again and was transferred and transferred and held and held and explained the situation 3 times to 3 different people. And I was told by the payments department that the ONLY way I was going to receive my credit was by a check that would take 60 days to process. WHAT? EXCUSE ME? You mean that I can pay you with a card number every single month for two years, but you cannot reverse the charges when you charge my card in error. The response was: no we don't do that. We can only process credits as checks. And besides, your account is inactive because it has been canceled. (OK - isn't that why we're having this conversation in the first place, because you didn't cancel it when you were supposed to....) Anyway, let me speak to your supervisor because I can't wait 60 days, I didn't expect to have that money charged to my card (and it was a debit card, but had it been a credit card, why should I pay interest on a payment that I didn't make - and regardless why should I loan Verizon $45.99 for 60 days?!). So, I hold for about 20 more minutes, then make my case to the supervisor and explain that I am going to write to the Attorney General and she puts me on hold again. When she comes back, she says that she has reversed the charges to my card and the money should be back in 3-5 business days. Yippee! I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Hopefully my Verizon nightmare has ended.

Please send this to your Attorney General in your state (Consumer Affairs) You will get results. You can now do this online or regular mail or calling. Just do it. They are the ones that can force Verizon to correct the problems. Just send them the same letter you posted here. This is what everyone has to do. Post here first and at VerizonPathetic to show the public what Verizon is about and than contact the Attorney General to force Verizon to fix the problem.
