Triple Play Bait & Switch

Verizon pulled the ol' bait and switch on me last week. I was told over the phone that I'd be getting the triple play package with "every single channel" they offered including HBO, Cinemax and Showtime for @ $165. It sounded too good to be true so I reiterated several times to the salesperson, Gracia Kite, that I'd be getting every single channel they offered including HBO, Cinemax and Showtime. I even asked specifically to have her email me in writing exactly what I'd be getting. I did receive an email, but it didn't state a single thing regarding what I'd be getting or how much I'd be paying.

Approximately a half hour after the call I received another call from Verizon stating that the salesperson forgot to mention that I'd also be receiving a $75 Visa gift card. I wish at this point they would have also told me that the salesperson was either a liar or an idiot to tell me that I'd be getting all those channels for that price.

A few days later the technician arrived for the installation. He was supposed to get there between 8-12am but instead arrived at around 4pm. Apparently, I wasn't the only person Verizon suckered in that week. As if to add insult to injury, Verizon not only managed to piss me off, but they also managed to steal a day of my life.

About 30 minutes into the installation after upgrading the box in the garage, he tells me that my router will also have to be updated. I wasn't too happy to hear this as I have several wireless devices that would need to be programmed to see the new router. I told him that before he does that I want to be absolutely sure that I'm getting all the channels that I was promised. He was much obliged and showed me his laptop where he displayed that I'd be getting Showtime, but not HBO or Cinemax. I asked almost rhetorically how that could be possible when I was told I'd be getting every single channel Verizon offered. I told him that I was clearly lied to and I wanted to cancel.

The tech then had the cancellation desk call me to try to get me not to cancel which turned out to be a half-assed effort at best. I found out from the cancellation desk just how badly I was lied to, because I told her that all I really care about is getting Showtime, Cinemax and HBO. I had completely forgotten about the Starz movie package up to this point, so I asked out of curiosity if the current order had Starz on it. The cancellation lady responded that Starz wasn't on the order either nor were any of the international channels. I amazed at just how far I was from having "every single channel Verizon offered" as I was told.

In any case, the Verizon lady said that they can take off $20 per month for the first year, but for the second I'd have to pay full price. I said that would be fine (despite the fact that I was agreeing to spend more than promised) if I can cancel without penalty after one year. She said that wasn't possible, so I then asked her to extend the $20 off for the entire term of the contract, which she said she couldn't do that either. I responded that if she couldn't do any better that I'd send the tech away. She replied with an, okay sorry, and ended her pitiful attempt to keep my business.

been there done that got the t-shirt !!!!!!!!! this is exactly what they do to all. PLEASE, send this letter to your attorney general's office. they are the ones you have to report this to. verizon will NEVER NEVER put in writing what you are getting. they had wired my whole place but i would not let them turn it on until i had every thing in writing. after weeks & weeks of being lied to and telling me every thing had to be done by phone i told them to get the wiring out if i could not have it in writing. so, they had to take every thing back out but at least i was not stuck with any charges and less channels than i have now with someone else. so many people here in NJ wrote to the attorney general's office that verizon settled by sending every one who wrote a prepaid visa card. they are the WORST.
