Land Line Service

I bought the land and then built the small but nice 'get-away-cabin' out of pocket and on holidays and weekends. Groundbreaking on the cabin was in 1998 and I've had a landline with Verizon since then.

This is the worst goddamned company that I've ever had to deal with! For 12-years I've had nothing but crappy service with static, bleed over calls or no service whatsoever for weeks at a time! I've had multiple service calls only to have the phone fail days later. It takes weeks to get a service date and many times they don't even show up.

The latest and greatest (or should I say typical) was the service failed on a visit to the cabin mid-June (06/12/10). They told us that a service call was scheduled for June 30th-the soonest they could do. They texted and left a message that service was complete. Then, out of the blue, on July 3rd. another 'service complete message'.

I drove the 200 miles to the cabin only to find that there was no evidence of service (the exterior junction box was still open from the last service call 4 months prior-tech forgot to close the phone company side). There was absolutely no service on the house lines. I had to drive 30 minutes to get a cell signal and call my wife.

She spent 45-minutes on the phone getting the runaround with customer service. After escalating we were promised emergency service the next day (Saturday 07/10/10). I waited all day and no one showed. I again drove to get cell service and called my wife. After the usual runaround we were promised to be the 4th. ticket for Sunday (07/11/10). Again, no one showed. I left at 5 pm last night and still had no service.

As soon as I get a weekday off I plan on filing a claim in small claims court in the county (Garrett County, MD.). I would also like to sue for breach of contract. I am exploring getting satellite internet so that I can, at least, say good night to my kids. I've done a little research on satellite phones but they seem expensive.

Is there no way we can defeat Verizon or find another option? I wouldn't even be able to dial 911 in an emergency!

as a former employee , please accept my sincere apology for piss poor service. The current management style and background of the managers have lead to this continual SNAFU in customer service. The majority of past employees that valued our customers have been retired, positions eliminated and replaced with contractors. It is only going to degrade further.

Suck it up.. there is no right or guarantee to dial 911. You chose to buy a get a way cabin in the woods.
