Deception

I tried to get my friend to join so we could get a referral. The following is how the chat went. Glad I was still in my 30 days. I cut Verizon loose.

A Verizon Wireless online pre-sales specialist has joined the chat. You are now chatting with Kylynn

Kylynn: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service. May I help you with your order today?

Kylynn: In an effort to better assist you, are you an existing Verizon Wireless customer?

You: Hi. I am with a friend who I am trying to talk into joining Verizon. I joined on Aug. 9.

You: If I refer him it says, "Your friends can't be receiving any discounts on his/her monthly access or other promotions (you may need to confirm this information with your friend before submitting a referral) " What promotions is that referring to?

Kylynn: Great choice! What kind of phones are they interested in?

Kylynn: Just to be sure that I understand what you are asking, can you please rephrase your question?

You: Your site says that in order for us to get a our $25 referral the person signing on can't be receiving any promotions or discounts. What does that entail?

Kylynn: Ok promotions include free activation and free shipping.

You: So there is no way we can get the referral then.

You: Cause if he buys online, there is free shipping and no activation.

Kylynn: That is correct. If he order online it will save him a ton, and he will also get the instant rebate on the phone so that he do not have to wait on it in the mail.

You: Don't see why you all even have a referral program then.

Kylynn: Would he like to get set up today?

You: Not sure why you have a referral program. Cause online you get discounts and at the store you get discounts. Any idea why they offer it?

Kylynn: Not sure however he will have to pay a activation fee and the phones will be more expensive in the store.If he orders online it will save him a ton.

You: Yes, we know. He wants the Droid x. We checked the other day and it said it ships the 17th and now its the 20th. Any idea why?

Kylynn: The phones is on high demand and as soon as the phone becomes out of stock from being purchased the date has to be reset until the other phones come in.

Kylynn: I have not heard from you for a few moments. Would you like me to keep this chat session open for further assistance?

You: I see. Well, he just said "he doesn't want to join because he doesn't get his referral and thinks the referral program is very deceptive and likely indicates that Verizon is deceptive in other ways." He also says he "wants a phone now and not wait two weeks." Thanks. I tried.

Kylynn: I see I know he may feel that Verizon is deceptive however if he choose to order he will not be disappointed and he will have Americas most trusted reliable network, how does that sound?

You: He says, No. He has a bad feeling about it and the service he'd get. Thanks though.

Kylynn: I understand that he has a bad feeling other customers have felt the same way and found out that Verizon Wireless was the best decision ever.

Kylynn: Would you like to get started?

You: He says "no and you'd have to do more than say that Verizon is 'the best decision ever' to get him to join." Thanks anyway. I gave it a go.
