Verizon phones w/ Hawaii numbers no longer working on mainland

Half of my family has Verizon wireless numbers based in Hawaii. Three days ago, their phones stopped working while visiting the mainland.

We called Verizon technical support, and we were told that it is a known issue resulting from a bad "relay" in Hawaii. We were promised it would be fixed shortly. We've called back daily, and we've been given the same response each time.

We decided to go online to find out more, but their MyVerizon login has also been deleted. We called technical support, and they didn't have an answer for that one, but they assured us the phones would be back to working within 12 hours.

Tomorrow, 17 Sept 2010, will be four days without cell phone service on the mainland (DC/Maryland area) for family members with Hawaii Verizon numbers.

I did attempt to contact Verizon via Twitter about it, but they did not respond even though the post was directed to @vzwsupport so it must be an issue that they really do not want the public to know about.
