Playing games with account numbers.

I recently switched from a landline phone (with internet and tv) to a cell phone. This prompted Verizon to switch my billing account number without telling me. So I sent them two payments to the original account number. This month, I got a bill saying my previous two months payments hadn't been received (they had, to the original account number). So I called them and they were sorry and they'd fix it. So I sent this month's payment to the new account number and they bounced it back to my bank saying it was an "incorrect account number".
I am trying hard to work with them but my patience is running thin.
