10 years later...still horrible on 2nd try,

10 years ago I voluntarily signed up for Verizon because my job required it. I was forced to pay a $500 deposit.
When I changed jobs I called Verizon to end my service. I was told they would deduct my termination fee from my deposit and SEND ME THE BALANCE!
After a couple of months, I called back and was informed that:
1) My phone was still active
2) I owed the last 2 months bills
3) They had NO RECORD OF A DEPOSIT

Two years later, after dozens of certified letters and credit disputes, Verizon finally agreed I had indeed paid a $500 deposit.

YET, THEY STILL DEMANDED I PAY FOR THE SERVICE AND FEES FOR THE PERIOD OF TIME WHILE WE DISPUTED THE SERVICE.

Basically, they refused to allow me to close my account, then later agreed they made a mistake, only to demand I pay for the extended time anyway.

I was a very happy, almost thrilled, Alltel customer for about 2 years, when Verizon purchased my carrier.

Hell Ensued.

To make even a small change on my plan, I was forced to sign up with Verizon anew.

It took literally 20-30 calls and perhaps as much as 8-12 hours on the phone to get a consensus on what parts of my previous plan were available and how to convert them to the new carrier.

Getting two Verizon reps to confirm the same address is virtually impossible.
-The first person would tell me they did not offer unlimited data.
-The second would tell me the plan included unlimited data.
-The third would tell me unlimited data was 19.99 extra.
-The forth, 39.99 extra.
-The fifth, ..not available.
And so on and so forth.

At one point I asked to speak to a rep's superior. I had meant to say supervisor. The representative began a "I don't have a superior" power to the people, type rant and then hung up.
- Typical.

At Alltel I paid $120 (with tax) for unlimited data and tethering for 1 blackberry and regular usage on the 2nd phone.

At Verizon I pay $260 (with tax) for unlimited data and tethering on 2 BBs.

Last month, after 1 year of Verizon "service" (cough cough) my bill was past due as sometimes happens, and they suspended my service without any notice whatsoever. I paid my "past due balance" that day, and was billed $60 in reconnection fees.

12 DAYS LATER, my bill was AGAIN suspended. Regardless of how recently I had paid my bill, a new bill had "generated" and I was technically late.
Nevermind that however late I was then, I MUST have logically been far later 12 days earlier.

$120 in reconnection fees in 13 days.

I am desperately trying to shrink my bill. I have dropped tethering. I cannot drop data because of my phone type. I have cut my minutes to practically nothing and my bill is still $165 (with tax).

I hate Verizon and I hate every person that I have spoken to at Verizon with the exception of 1 person.

This company must recruit in hell.
