I was told upon signing up that the early termination fee is easily "waived"

Yet when I canceled my account... they still charged it to me and won't hear anything about waiving it. I told them that I was told this when I first signed a contract, and they told me that sales person mis-informed me... But Verizon can't just lie about something to get a sale and not follow through, that's very unethical. Any suggestions on how I go about getting them to waive the fee?
