The Verizon HTC Droid Eris does not work.

My verizon HTC Droid Eris has not worked properly since the operating system was upgraded back in April.

The problems I am having are common to ALL Verizon HTC Droid Eris customers. The most frustrating, however, is the fact that the phone will not stay on the home screen but instead locks on to the far left screen and will not let you go anywhere else. In order to make a call, I have to pull the battery and clear out all the app caches. This will make the phone work for about 30 min if I don't use any of the apps - if I do it force closes or locks up and I have to pull the battery again.

Upon researching the issue, I have found that the problem is universal for all Verizon HTC Droid Eris customers and Verizon's response is to replace the phone with another Eris that is factory refurbished. The problem starts up again on this "new" phone within a matter of weeks.

To me, his is so far beyond serious as the phone worked well long enough for me to restructure my work around it. Now it is effecting my livelihood. This is ontop of my frustration of not being able to call or text a friend, use twitter, or any of the supposedly great apps Verizon touts.

Customer service at the various Verizon stores I have been to has been atrocious and thoroughly unhelpful. When they realize the severity of my disgust with Verizon, they call the corporate number and never get through. I have stood in a Verizon store as long as an hour while the employee waits to get through. I leave even more disgusted than when I came in. It is clear that these people are powerless to help and that I could just as easily sit on hold myself - if my phone worked. And Verizon is supposed to be a "communication" company.

My coarse of action so far is to stop paying my bill. Maybe this will get someone to talk to me that can help. It would not matter if my service is stopped as the phone is barely usable as it is.

It is obvious upon seeing how many people are disgusted with the Verizon HTC Droid Eris that it should be recalled. It is also clear that Verizon is not going to address the issues with the phone or communicate with the legions of disgusted and irate customers without legal action. So it is time to look for an attorney and start thinking about class action against Verizon. Seeing the amount of potential clients who have been screwed by their purchase of the Verizon HTC Droid Eris, I would think any attorney would jump at the chance to take this on.

I am tired of watching my friends play on their I Phones while I pay $120 a month for a useless paperweight. Verizon is a truly awful company and everyone on this thread should demand at the very least to be released from their contract.

I suggest rooting and flashing a custom rom. Kaos.Froyo is what I have on my daughters Eris. It's so much faster, smoother and way less "buggy" than the stock Eclair OS. It removes a lot of VZW's bloatware which slows performance. Good Luck to you, the Eris can be a decent phone again.

Thanks so much for the response and suggestion. It is thoroughly pathetic on Verizon's part that I should have to spend the time to learn how to customizing the OS of my phone just to make it operable. I don't want to go this route just out of principle. I would rather spend the time taking Verizon to small claims court and expressing my dismay via the internet (while there is still some semblance of net neutrality)in hopes that others will avoid these unbelievable frustrations and that Verizon's callousness will end up costing them.
