Merger fail

I was an alltel customer and was having a few issues with them and was happy to hear change coming with the merger of alltel and verizon. After the merger though i regreted sticking with them. My plan was up for renewal so i went ahead and renwed (days before the merger) and gave my blackberry to my wife and got a new phone for myself. There was no advice to wait and just start over with verizon. After 30 days i was not satisfyed with my phone and wanted to switch to a different phone. Of course, i was told that i was past 30 days and could not get a different phone. Accepting defeat, i moved on only to find out later that they had changed policy to allow 60 days and did not tell anyone. Pissed, i called verizon. No help there. Since i was still using an alltel plan i asked about just switching over to verizon. I was told that i would then have to get verizon phones but would have to pay full price for the phones. Bullshit! I was trying to make things easy and i get raped. This is when i found out that i had 60 days to return my phone but was now too late. Also, my first verizon bill was over $300. When i asked for the reason they told me that verizon charges a month in advance so i was paying for the previous month and the next month on the same bill. It would have been nice to know that was going to happen. Seeing that now it was a losing battle i checked what the early termination fee would be. When i went to alltel and verizons sites it was $150. So for two lines $300. I would save $500 dollars by cutting my contract. I did and got a bill for $600. They upped the early termination fee to $250 per line and tacked on more fees. In the following months i would be in a verizon store once a week to wash windows. Time and time again i heard more people dealing with problems wanting to swtch to verizon from alltel. Basically they were told "If you want to switch from alltel to verizon you won't get any breaks on phones, and there's nothing we can do to help." One guy got pretty upset. I found out later that my boss and his wife switched over their business cell accounts from alltel to verizon and got new phones with no trouble and didn't have to buy their phones outright. What kind of shit is that?! Any big company should realize that if you're going to take over another company that you need to take care of your new customers because they didn't ask to get taken over and you want to make the experince pleasent for them. You should be helping them out and making them happy rather than raping them as soon as you take over.

you can buy out of pocket any phone you want -- you cannot *make* verizon buy whatever phone you want for you


additionally


(1) NEVER try to "solve" anything with verizon by chat or phone.

(2) ALWAYS communicate with verizon with a typed, paper letter. Should they call back to discuss inform them you will only communicate by written letter and hang up.

Otherwise you'll get the by the book line "Agent YZ was not authorized to _____" and insert whatever deal/arranged made.


When you finally are tired of being burned take you stack of PAPER communication to small claims court. When verizon rep fails to show you win by default.



Too much abuse file a "formal complaint" with your [insert state here] public utility commission.
