unexplained charges

I left Verizon services, back in November. I was told I had a 15.00 credit coming to me. It is now February and I got a letter from a collection agency RE: Verizon, stating I owe 286.26. I called Verizon 4 xs and was disc. twice, and thrown into another que, twice. The first time I was told it was because of the service equipment. The second time I was told flat out that they didn't know why I was being billed 286.26, when I asked for a supervisor, thats when I was disconnected. You can see where all this is going. My husband called today and told me it was because of his cell. He was disconnected a few times as well. You know what? I gave up and paid the collection agency. It's no longer Ma Belle. How do senior citizens or people on a fixed income deal with these jerks? Where is management supposingly listening in on these calls? Did you you know what these reps make per hour? Its a healthy amount. I am so upset right now, that I don't know if this makes any sense. But let me say that I know for a fact that these calls are suppose to be monitered.
