Is Verizon screwing your credit?? Complaing to BBB!!!

I, like many here, have had a horrible experience with Verizon that has lasted over one year. Well, with the help of the BBB, I have defeated Verizon. I actually received a letter in the mail yesterday from Verizon stating that any negative feedback on my credit report would be deleted. I've been knocked down over 150 points over the last year because of a, surprise, billing error. PLEASE LOG A COMPLAINT WITH THE BBB!!! You can beat these guys! I can't wait for the day when their ship goes down.

In July 2008, I changed from Verizon to Comcast, I called Verizon to cancel my service, despite the cancelation I still received a bill for August, so I wrote them a letter, In september I was still billed, they did not cancel my service but they billed for August and September as well, I send another letter to them, I received a bill in October, they canceled my service but still billed for August and September. In November I got a call from a colection agency, they put me on hold for 45 min to tell me that Verizon wants their money or they will put this in my credit history. Verizon does have terrible business practices. some day they will want to be bailed out by the government for banckrupsy

What a shock this morning, being a scrupulous on-time bill payer, to get a phone call from a debt collecting agency!! Back in August 08 I switched over to Verizon (what a mistake!) to benefit from a special offer. We're a one income family and I have to be on the lookout for ways of saving... I made a first order, but since my native language is French, not English, I had a lot of trouble understanding their customer rep (she had a heavy accent),and she did not understand me (even though I made it through Grad school in the US and have a PhD). She set up an account for a totally wrong address and told me our phone number would need to change.

This fact later seemed strange to me, because, thanks to an old bill I realized that just after moving in, we had had a few months of Verizon service with that number.

So I called back to double-check whether we really could not keep our current number.When I made this second phone call, the second Verizon representative to whom I talked told there she had no order on record for me. So I placed a new order, was told we could keep our number, and the phone service was switched

Now, not only did I have to fight for two months to actually get that deal I switched over for (it took over two hours on the phone (mostly on wait or talking to their silly automated system) but as it turned out, the first order DID go through, and Verizon was sending bills for me to a place that we have never even seen, lived in, let alone used a phone or received mail at! These bills were returned from September to December, since the address was wrong, and Verizon eventually charged off the account in December. Of this I was absolutely unaware until this morning when the debt collectors called!

Empowered by the possession of my name and social security number, Verizon was asking money for service I was not using, in addition to receiving regular payments for the account I was using.
I have had to call back and forth for over two hours now to straighten this, and I ran into some most unpleasant representatives. Now I am looking into having to explain all this mess to the credit report agencies... And the timing is perfect, I am expecting a child in three days! and we are planning to buy a house next year!
Oh yes, I do hate Verizon! Thanks for the BBB suggestion! Thanks for this website! Verizon just got to stop this!

Verizon has also completely screwed me over 100 points on my credit report. On a billing error of 60 dollars. I ordered Verizon and they are NOT in my building was NEVER hooked up and they continued to keep this on my account. Everytime I called they kept saying your account is zero it is taken care of - they I get a collections account and again they "closed it and took care of it" NEVER NEVER use Verizon - now I will be fighting this for years to get it off my credit report

I have been battling Verizon for over 2 years now for this same issue. They destroyed my credit when I never had an account with them. I turned them away at my door when they tried to sell me. SOMEHOW I was sent to the collections- I too filed with the BBB, twice actually. I received the same letter and a call from Verizon stating they would wipe my record clean. HAHAHAHA Guess what - its still showing on my credit report. I am now seeking legal action.

Hi, could you tell me how to complain to the BBB and FCC. i Disconnected service and never got a final bill. Seven months later I get a bill from a collection agency. Before I moved, was told by Verizon i was paid thru 12/27. I moved on 12/28 and told not to pay a full bill by verizon rep. now in collections and they are telling me I had only paid up to 11/27 and owe $176.75 including $40 early termination fee. There is no FIOS available at my new address. When I first signed up, i was verbally told there would never be a penalty if I moved where there is no service. I've spent several hours on Facebook Private Messages, Chat rooms, to no avail. They will not prove I owe that much and no final bill, just a revenge act to ruin my credit.
