Ongoing failure activating email after getting FIOS (2011)

Up to last week (August 2011) was dial-up Internet customer via Verizon land line (copper) home phone. Got FIOS (Internet and digital voice phone) installed week ago. Since then continuing failure to be able to activate Verizon e-mail address. All online and automated phone attempts fail in various ways (and often after lots of steps). Also, "live chat" would not connect as a source of support during that week of attempts. Finally got through to Verizon by phone today. Waited on hold for 38 minutes to connect to a Verizon rep. Then let him control my computer remotely to try to solve the problem. He worked with me for 60 more minutes trying. At the end of that he brought a supervisor to stand by him and watch his next attempt. The supervisor then said, "There is a bug regarding activation. The fix is scheduled to happen the 15th of this month." Nothing they can do until then. Want to bet the supposed fix on the 15th still doesn't solve it? Meanwhile, I have to keep paying my AOL subscription to ensure I don't lose e-mail totally.
