Everyone who agrees to a new contract should ask to have that contract explained paragraph by paragraph if not line by line. I would ask that anything verbally said by the Verizon rep be backed up in writing in the contract.

If the Verizon rep says something like they usually don't do that even though it's in writing assume they will. And the manufacturer vs store warranty is becoming a bigger issue even in appliance stores. Again make sure you get a break down of manufacturer vs the seller IN WRITING.

Point being if every Verizon customer would question their contract in detail on every transaction they would make them simplier if nothing else. You also could try informing the manufacturer of the product of how Verizon handles/represents/sells their product.

It's a pain but you have to get the frontline Verizon reps to explain in detail the contracts they want you to sign.
