Verizon Holding My Phone Number Hostage

This is my second complaint about Verizon. My contract is ending in August, but I just paid for the last month of service, so I am fully paid up. I called Verizon to notify them that I am cancelling my service and switching carriers, and that I would like to port my numbers. They said that if I port my numbers before my contract expires, even though I am fully paid up, I will have to pay an early termination fee. The service rep was very emphatic about this and there is no way around this. Even though I am fully paid, I can't end my service and port my number without triggering an early termination fee. I have to wait until the last day of my contract with Verizon in order to port my numbers. But if I wait that long, I will likely have to pay for another month of service.

Hello Paul you are very wrong. Billing doesn't work like that , with any company. Ex: if your bill date is the 1 of every month , again this is an example, then your bill goes from 1st to the 30th of the mth. Your final bill will be prorated .In other words you always pay your bill in advance , but if you cancel your service for example on the 15th ,then you will receive a final bill with a credit from the 15th to the 30th of that month..You will only pay till the day you used your service . You will not pay for days you didnt have it. this is how every single service that has a bill date works , in other words all services , all companies. This has nothing to do with your contract .Come on people , please stop the ignorance ...
