A new form of blackmail

I was with Verizon for years and finally got tired of the high monthly rate. I have a home phone and work phone so didn't need the big Verizon bill, too. So, here's what went down:

My bill is from the 28th to the 28th. My auto-pay is made on the 22nd. BUT my 2-year contract expired on the 6th. I waited until the 6th to cancel. (If I had cancelled before that Verizon would have hit me with a large cancellation fee.) Verizon still charged me for a full month. The Verizon rep I talked to said that even though I only used their service for 1 week, I still have to pay for the full month due to government regulations. She said all carriers charge you for the full month even if you don't use it.

They make sure they get money from you one way or the other. They stagger the dates so you either pay a cancellation fee or you pay for a full month.

Now I am with a no-contract phone with good service, half the cost of Verizon and a lot more minutes.
