Hold phones hostage when you switch carriers

Switched carriers today only to find out that they locked up my daughters Galaxy S4. Verizon told me this is legal and is their contact that they are allowed to do this. this is a phone that we bought outside of Verizon... I cant believe that this is allowable by law. They lock it up so you can't do anything but use it as a phone. Has this happen to anybody else!!!!!

Its possible that you bought a locked phone even if its from a 3rd party. If it was unlocked and verizon locked it you can have them request an unlock code. Since you bought the phone outside of verizon if it was unlocked verizon has no legal right to lock it. Its your property. Call them back and insist on having it unlocked if they refuse then tell them to contact their legal department because what they are doing is illegal. And that's only if the phone was bought outside of verizon "unlocked"

Google phone unlocking, its a us government thing allowing us carriers to restrict devices to their own networks
