FIOS fraud

I signed up for a 2-year contract/3 way bundle with Verizon FIOS. I had 30 days to opt out and supposedly 'free of charge'. I canceled because I found better Verizon deals on the net, even though I asked the sales rep, who called me, if there were any better deals than what he offered. He said "No". The better deals had no contract, no install fee and were cheaper if I signed up via the net.

When I called Verizon about this (or any inquiries), they put me on hold for very lengthy periods. I canceled within about 3 weeks, so I should not have been obligated. Then, they changed their 'free of charge' pitch to 'worry free', implying that I was liable for the "service" I received. I recorded each call.

So, now I assume they want my 3+ weeks of service and 1/3 of the install fee, totaling approx.135.00. When I returned the boxes, the woman said to wait before paying - so they could get the billing straight.

Now a collection agency is hounding me for over 400.00. I have no idea how they came up with that figure. I thought I wasn't supposed to pay ANYTHING if I canceled within the time allotted, but was willing to pay for my service (roughly 100 - 110 dollars). I shouldn't even be paying for the install fee but was considering it. But 400.00? The collection agency said to write a letter of dispute and to include the recordings I made. I want to call a lawyer and sue these bastards for harassment and fraud.
