Dropped my phone

"I dropped my phone in a puddle of water and want to replace it with another phone that I purchased from Walmart. Verizon's on-line people told me that I would have to pay over $100 for a phone that they are selling or sign a new two-year contract. I have had service with them for many years. Why do I have to start over just like a brand new customer?"

Well, Bob, that's how subsidies work. I'm willing to bet that phone was worth a whole lot more than $100 hence the 2 year contract. You pay for a service one which I'm willing to bet you've received the entire time you've been the oldest and most loyal customer with Verizon. Dump water on your T.V. and see if the electric company will give you a new one for free. They are a business not a charity. Buy insurance and be less clumsy.
