Verizon "High Speed" DSL

I pay for Verizon only because they are available. The only other option is satellite, and even most of them don't do our area. It's also through-the-roof pricing. Everyone else has FIOS - I saw a FIOS truck pass by my house, and I was tempted to chase it - including the neighbors 300 feet behind us. And 50 feet in front of us. And 50 feet to the left. And ~1,000 feet to the right. We are surrounded. Everywhere. However, we only get "high speed" DSL. It would cost them almost nothing to extend it- they won't. The equipment for the phone line, which the DSL is supposed to go through (it leaks when it rains/snows/sleeps/hails/fog and any atmosphere changes, so no connection at all when that happens) is supposed to be something like no more than 300-600 feet. It's over 2000 feet away. Thanks. Again. To have DSL, we must have a Verizon phone line (great...). It costs $40 a month. The DSL costs $20 for a total bill of $60/month. Sounds cheap, right? It's expensive for a purchase of...nothing. There are two plans available to us. The
