Merry Christmas from Verizon

So our phone drops out last Tuesday night (Dec.16th), and I took a deep breath and called Verizon from my cell. I now dread these service phone calls so much that I get nauseous when I have to make one. Of course, I was given the usual runaround capped off by the news that they couldn't possibly have anyone out here until the 24th. 8 days with no phone.

Did I mention that I work from home? Did I mention I have elderly parents who need to be able to reach me? OK, the 24th it is.

Over the course of the next 8 days, it became apparent that the outage was due to water leaking into a junction box. I'm no detective, but I consider it a clue that we got dial tone back on nice days, and lost it whenever it rained.

So trying to help things along, I called Verizon back repeatedly and told them what was going on, and to please, please, for the love of God, don't send a guy with a clipboard out here on the 24th, send someone who can dig. "OK, sir, we've made a note of that."

Would you care to guess who was sent out here this morning? That would be a guy with a clipboard, who said, "yep, it's rain coming in to your junction box. And I don't dig."

And who then forwarded the information to a digging crew, so we can now be scheduled all over again. I have not yet heard back from them of course.

I don't think I've ever encountered another company whose level of incompetence is exceeded only by their breathtaking indifference.

Well, possibly Comcast. But it's a close race.

Knowing the rules, that employee had been probably blasted in the past by his supervisor for the slightest perceived impropriety when it comes to union or craft rules. The company is broken and employees are threatened each day in every work group from coast to coast. Would you give up your $ 65- $75 k / year job and benefits for a residential phone line ?

i was a worker for verizon for 10 years and i can clearly say that the company does not care about the consumer or employee. they get fined millions of dollars each year for not meeting puc and fcc guidelines but rather than correct the problems,they consider it a cost of business.

i would of called them every half hour and complained. the more u call,the faster they respond.

I have an update to my orig. post above - someone did come out on the 30th - - another guy who doesn't dig! He narrowed down where he thinks the problem is, spray painted it white, and said there was no way a digging crew would come out before Jan. 5th, due to the holiday week. So our phone service is still at the mercy of the weather. Luckily it hasn't rained much this week. The new guy was good though, he understood my anger. He said, "I deal with these a**holes everyday, I know what they're like." So the wait continues...
